Grilled Fish and Sandcastles in Kerala

We had some very good times relaxing in Kerala (South India). Our first stop was Varkala, an improbable city set on the edge of a cliff overlooking a sandy beach and the blue ocean. Yes, it was pretty awesome. We mostly did nothing, except that time when Jeremy decided to make a sandcastle and the whole beach stopped by to admire it.

Look at this wonder. Is it the Taj Mahal? NO! It's Jeremy's sandcastle

This is just like a car show

Different Boat, Same Problem:
In Alleppey, hundreds of small wooden cruise through the neighboring canals and rivers. In order to take part in the fun, our first step was to choose a boat.  We went to the pier and visited about 20 boats, before choosing the best one, i.e. the one that would look best in pictures. We believe that we succeeded:

Introducing.... DA BOAT

This boat looks SO good on Jeremy

On the boat, we did nothing but read, nap, and wait to be fed delicious food by the crew.  It was a lot of work

Best boat ride ever! (well, except for that one time in Burma of course)

Last stop in Kerala: Fort Cochin, a former Portuguese port, and a very cute city.  We stayed in 2 different charming homestays, wandered around the winding old city and a neighborhood called Jew Town, and learned to cook Indian food.

Dinner and a walk with Jay, a friend we made during a long train ride
